Featured News: Child Abuse Prevention Month
Overview
The Santa Barbara County Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) is happy to present April 2022 as Child Abuse Prevention Month!
Theme
The theme of this month's campaign is "Resilience is what makes your family strong!” Being a parent or caregiver is stressful, and it can be a struggle for anyone. There are seven simple stress busters that can help build resilience. We'll focus on a different one each week, with daily tips, interviews with community agencies, and more. Building resilience helps strengthen families, provide positive experiences for children, and reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect.

2022 CAP Month Resources
We invite you to review these talking points for the campaign (English, Spanish), this introduction to parental resilience (English, Spanish) and this list of seven strategies to build resilience (English, Spanish). We will also post stories to this News page throughout the month. In addition, we invite you to learn about Resilient Santa Barbara County (RSBC), and to visit the RSBC community website and blog to learn how buffering services within the county offer opportunities for building resilience in children and families. For more on ACEs, toxic stress, and the seven strategies, see this handout packet for community members (English, Spanish), this 11x17 poster for doctors' offices (English, Spanish), and this information & resource presentation for community partners (English, Spanish).
Social Media
Throughout April, we will post daily tips on our Facebook page, as well as promoting awareness activities and educational opportunities (such as #WearBlue4Kids Friday selfie days, pinwheel plantings in two cities, a Santa Barbara County Board resolution, weekly webinars for practitioners, a kids art contest for youth, and more). We invite you to share anything you find on our Facebook page on your own individual or organizational page.
Where You Come In
Preventing child abuse and protecting children is a community responsibility, with everyone needing to take action to provide support to the families and children around us. Taking action can be as simple as offering a helping hand to a parent you know.
About CAPC
CAPC is a collaborative group dedicated to the prevention and early intervention of child abuse and neglect within the community. We enact change through raising community awareness, providing resources to parents, educating service providers, and supporting agencies providing prevention and intervention services.
